RPN-34 CE — The first photo-realistic HP-34C simulator for iOS

Version 2.6

RPN-34 CE is a photo-realistic simulation of Hewlett-Packard's third-generation scientific calculator HP-34C.

Released in 1979, the HP-34C was the high-end scientific member of the so-called "Spice" series. It was discontinued in 1983.

RPN-34 CE is a massively enhanced, yet fully compatible version of the HP-34C.

Version History RPN-34 CE

2.6 – Jan 15, 2024
  • New:
  • • After computing an integral, the "uncertainty" stack register Y contains the current
      Integration Accuracy setting (0 = Best, 1 = High, 2 = Norm). Details
  • • The "Integration Accuracy" setting is now stored along with the program.
  • • Added "–" following the step number in PRGM mode, as seen on a real HP-34.
  • • On lengthy calculations, the display may show a string of "–" instead of staying dark.
  • • Verified and cleaned-up most of the sample programs.
  • • New sample programs added: Double Integrals and Memory Game and Trainer.
  • • The default font for program listings is now Menlo (previously Courier New).
  • • Changed the default setting for Show Key Fronts from Lower to All.

  • Bug Fixes:
  • • By accident, the previous version didn't drop the stack after executing .
  • • Several illegal key sequences, such as "LBL CHS" or "LBL +", are now correctly suppressed.
  • • "SOLVE lbl" showed correctly as "14 73 lbl" on the display, but as "14 .lbl" in the program listing (where lbl = 0..9, A, B).
  • • In PRGM mode, two consecutive RTN steps could show up at the end of a program.

2.5 – Dec 19, 2023
  • New:
  • • Unicode blanks are converted to regular blanks when pasting program text.
  • • Added sample program "Grazing Goat"

  • Bug Fixes:
  • • Applying the integrate function to very large numbers could cause a crash.
  • • The "What's New" would reappear even when told not to.

2.4.1 – Jan 4, 2023
  • Bug Fix:
  • • Fixes an issue where program lines cut using "g PCut" would not always get pasted correctly.

2.4 – Sep 28, 2022
  • New:
  • • Set the haptics feedback level in the Settings
  • • Labels .0 and .1 may now be targets of branching via the I-register. Details

2.3 – Apr 9, 2022
  • New:
  • • Change the program listing font with a simple tap on the button F
  • • Sample Programs may be hidden in the list of programs
  • • Apply a filter to quickly find any program

2.2 – Dec 15, 2020
  • New:
  • • PDF Listing/Description shows improved subject when mailed
  • • Updating the File List invokes visual feedback
  • • Stopping a program refreshes the register view
  • • Improved auto-clearing of flag F8

  • Bug Fix:
  • • ISG/DSE commands were susceptible to internal rounding effects

2.1 – Nov 8, 2020
  • New:
  • • Print (or mail as PDF) the program or its description.
  • • Improved accuracy in extreme cases of yx with positive, integer x.
      For example, 1.0000001^227 = 674530.4707, not 674530.4760
  • • Stack shows localized formatted value while number is being entered.
  • • Call up "What's New" anytime from Info screen

  • Bug Fixes:
  • • Display issues when operating the iPhone in "Zoomed" mode
  • • RND didn't work correctly in regions using comma as decimal point
  • • Double- or triple-tapping the empty program listing area caused a crash

2.0 – Jan 25, 2020
  • New:
  • • Improved LN(x!) function:
      – Higher accuracy
      – Now returns y and z such that x! = y * 10^z (where z is an integer)
  • • If SOLVER is called from a program, and a root is not found, the program doesn't stop anymore.
Instead, the next step is skipped. This allows iterative searching for roots under program control.
  • • Improved stack display (swipe display right to show):
      – Doesn't cover top bar functions anymore.
      – Shows unformatted values of x and Last x.
      – Long-press to directly call up the register view.
      – Correct digit entries by swiping left.
  • • Email programs directly from the program list
  • • Replacing registers by pasting a program into the display is now optional
  • • Support for iOS 13: Dark Mode, file sharing
  • • iOS 11 or later

1.3 – July 2, 2019

  • • New program "Curve Fit Automatic" added

1.2 – Apr 6, 2019
  • New:
  • • Register I is now formatted in Register View for easy interpreting in ISG/DSE commands
  • • New program added: "Locating the Moon"

1.1 – Feb 5, 2019
  • New:
  • • Optional stack display (swipe display right/left)
  • • Cut and paste any number of program steps
  • • Set flags are shown as highlighted register numbers in Register View
  • • Flags are saved and loaded along with programs
  • • Select integration precision in Settings (Norm/High/Best)
  • • Warning dialog on deleting program memory or program files
  • • Improved reliability of comparisons
  • • Added two program pacs ("Student Engineering Applications" and "Surveying Applications")

  • Bug Fixes:
  • • In rare situations, executing Integrate or Solve from the keyboard would not stop correctly after the calculation
  • • Issues with branching via I-register

1.0 – January 9, 2019
  • First public version.
